Biomass
Neuville biomass heating
Carbonaxion designed, financed and built a residual forest biomass boiler system that will be used to treat the
leachate generated by the landfill site.
Location: Neuville landfill site
"Leachate":
During storage and under the combined action of rainwater and natural fermentation, waste produces a liquid fraction called "leachate". Rich in organic matter and trace elements, this leachate cannot be released directly into the natural environment and must be carefully collected and treated.
Integrated wood utilization complex
Participation in the feasibility study for the implementation of a wood utilization complex that would include a veneer peeling and plywood production line, a sawing and glued laminated product line, as well as a torrefied wood pellet production line to dispose of the residues produced by the two previous lines and provide them with the necessary heat. Torrefied wood pellets are an alternative fuel to certain forms of fossil energy.
Forest biomass storage and sorting centre
Carrying out pre-feasibility study, including techno-economic assessment, to validate the relevance of building and operating a forest biomass storage and sorting centre in the Capitale-Nationale region. This centre would receive different species of wood from several different forestry sources exploiting the region's mixed forests, sort it and provide processors with the desired timber types (sawing, peeling, OSB panels, pulpwood, firewood, etc.).
Torrefied wood pellet production plant
Carbonaxion has completed the preliminary design of a torrefied wood pellet (bio-coal) production plant. This plant should produce between 30,000 and 40,000 t/year of torrefied wood pellets from forest residues. Biochar, in this form, is intended to displace fossil fuels and reduce the carbon footprint of our economy.
In terms of decarbonization, the production of 30,000 tonnes of torrefied wood pellets could displace some 17 million litres of fuel oil annually, eliminating nearly 50,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases, equivalent to the annual emissions of more than 12,000 automobiles.

Renewable natural gas (RNG) - Biogas -
Syngas
Anaerobic digestion of organic waste
Carbonaxion is developing a complex for the beneficiation of organic residues, sourced mainly from agri-food and agricultural residues generated locally, which will be treated using an anaerobic digestion processe. The complex will produce renewable natural gas (RNG) as well as organic fertilizers.
Estimated production: 3.0 Mm /year

Syngas production by biomass gasification
Carbonaxion carried out a concept study and technical-economic evaluation for the production of syngas (biogas) by gasification of residual forest biomass. The biogas thus produced would be used to replace natural gas used in building heating or industrial processes.
Gasifier power used for study purposes: 6MW
GNR Neuville (Landfill site)
Development of a project to recover and recycle landfill gas escaping from a landfill site. The biogas will be purified in order to produce renewable natural gas (RNG). As the project developer, Carbonaxion will design, finance, implement the project, and operate the purification facilities once construction is complete. The RNG produced will be injected into Énergir's gas grid.
Average volume of methane produced: 1.9 Mm / year
Location: Municipality of Neuville, Portneuf
Planned start-up date: August 2024
Operating time: 20 years

CO2 capture and utilization
Utilization of CO2 with hydrogen (Methanation)
Carrying out a technical and economic feasibility study of methane production by conversion of CO2 extracted during biogas processing, based on a methanation process using hydrogen.
Location: Municipality of Neuville, Portneuf

Biomass heating for a poultry farm (propane replacement)
Carbonaxion carried out a technical and economic feasibility study of using a residual forest biomass boiler and heating network to heat turkey houses. The study aims to:
-
Define technical solutions to replace the propane brooders, currently used in these henhouses, by hydronic units.
-
Compare the biomass solution to the current propane system on the basis of specific heating costs ($/kg) and avoided greenhouse gas emissions (tonne of CO2 eq. /year).
Greenhouse biomass heating
Development of preliminary studies and comparative analyses on the use of residual forest biomass as a fuel for heating greenhouses.
Carbonaxion biomass heating system in Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury (propane replacement)
Carbonaxion designed, financed and deployed a heating network fuelled by residual forest biomass, which it will operate for 15 years. The client, Nordique spa Stoneham, pays for the "green" heat it consumes, just as it pays its electricity bill. At the end of the agreement, the installations will become the property of the client.
Owner of the facilities: Carbonaxion
Type of energy: Residual forest biomass
Client: Nordique spa Stoneham
Commissioning: December 2018
Operating time: 15 years

Biomass district heating for an industrial park
Carbonaxion carried out a technical and economic feasibility study for the implementation of a forest biomass district heating network in the Sainte-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier industrial park, which would provide heating to existing and future buildings.
